Bring Out Your Inner Lewis or Clark

 

The chances are the President is not going to commission your expedition. Don’t take it personally, it’s just they achieved those goals way-back-when in 1806.

But don’t let a little thing like that spoil your sense of adventure and desire to boldly go whereÂ… there’s a little of the adventurer in all of us.

Not all history is in elsewhere

Comparatively the U.S. has just as much history as anywhere in the world. It might be a little more recent, but it is still a great story.

Getting from east-to-west was a massive undertaking. Remember, they didn’t know what they were going to find. No idea of the terrain or who they might meet. They had no idea how long they would be away, or what happened should anyone become ill.

No longer life or death

Luckily they did it and so now we can follow lewis and clark expedition route in relative safety but still get a sense of what is might have been like to experience the great trek.

Lewis and Clark faced almost everything that nature could throw at them. Now following in their footsteps isn’t quite so treacherous but is just as informative. This is American History and the tales and stories make us the nation we are today.

Getting a sense of why it matters.

Americans talk of themselves as Irish-American or African-American (with everything that implies) or Italian-American. All of these have histories which need to be remembered and honored. The one thing everyone has in common is that they are American.

America’s beating heart, expressed so well in A New Colossus, is more important today than ever. Guess what? Because this is America, that paean to everything this country stands for, was written by a woman.
